During the biomolecular interaction, the surface stress of the functionalized membranes alters resulting in their deflection and finally in capacitance variations. The biological interaction on the sensors surface was verified after each experiment using fluorescent microscopy. Successful detection of 21 nM of streptavidin using 3.55 mM biotin probes is presented. 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Highly sensitive biomolecule detection on a quartz crystal microbalance using gold nanoparticles as signal amplification probes.

We report here a novel strategy for the high-sensitive detection of target biomolecules with very low concentrations on a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) device using gold nanoparticles as signal enhancement probes. By employing a streptavidin-biotin interaction as a model system, we could prepare biotin-conjugated gold nanoparticles maintaining good dispersion and long-term stability by cont...

DNA Detection by Flow Cytometry using PNA‐Modified Metal–Organic Framework Particles

A DNA-sensing platform is developed by exploiting the easy surface functionalization of metal-organic framework (MOF) particles and their highly parallelized fluorescence detection by flow cytometry. Two strategies were employed to functionalize the surface of MIL-88A, using either covalent or non-covalent interactions, resulting in alkyne-modified and biotin-modified MIL-88A, respectively. Cov...

Production of Recombinant Streptavidin and Optimization of Refolding Conditions for Recovery of Biological Activity

Background: Streptavidin is a protein produced by Streptomyces avidinii with strong biotin-binding ability. The non-covalent, yet strong bond between these two molecules has made it a preferable option in biological detection systems. Due to its extensive use, considerable attention is focused on streptavidin production by recombinant methods. Methods: In this study, streptavidin was express...

Dual-Specific Interaction to Detect DNA on Gold Nanoparticles

An approach to selectively and efficiently detect single strand DNA is developed by using streptavidin coated gold nanoparticles (StAuNPs) as efficient quenchers. The central concept for the successful detection is the combination the of streptavidin-biotin interaction with specific probe-target DNA hybridization. Biotin labeled probe DNAs act as "bridges" to bring Cy5 labeled targets to the pa...
